Health and Fitness at Hurlands: Building Strength, Longevity and Community

Tue Mar 10th | 4 minute read

We’re really excited to introduce the new Health and Fitness offering here at Hurlands. For us, this isn’t just about adding more classes to the timetable. It’s about creating a space where people can look after their health, improve their fitness and feel part of a supportive community at the same time.

In a world where most of us are busy, tired and often sat down more than we should be, making time for movement is one of the best things we can do for our long-term health. Regular exercise helps us stay strong, mobile and energised, and it plays a huge role in how we feel mentally as well as physically. That’s why we’ve developed two dedicated studios and a full weekly timetable of classes that focus on all aspects of health and fitness, from strength and conditioning to yoga, Pilates and high-energy group training.

A More Holistic Way to Train

One of our studios has been designed as a holistic space, somewhere you can slow things down slightly and really focus on how your body feels and moves. Here, we’ll be running a range of yoga classes including yin, vinyasa and hatha, alongside mat Pilates sessions.

Each of these styles offers something a little different. Yin yoga is slower and more restorative, helping to release tension and improve flexibility and joint mobility. Vinyasa flow is more dynamic and movement-based, great for building strength and improving coordination. Hatha yoga brings a more traditional approach, focusing on posture, breathing and overall body awareness.

Pilates fits perfectly alongside yoga. It’s fantastic for core strength, posture and stability, all of which are essential for everyday movement as well as sport. A stronger core supports the spine, reduces the risk of back pain and helps you move more efficiently in daily life.

These types of sessions are sometimes underestimated, but they are incredibly important when it comes to long-term health and longevity. Staying flexible, maintaining good balance and keeping joints healthy becomes more and more valuable as we get older. It’s not just about feeling good after a class, it’s about still being able to move well, stay active and do the things you enjoy years down the line.

High-Energy Fitness Classes for Strength and Conditioning

Alongside the holistic studio, we also have our fitness studio, which is where things get a bit more energetic. This is where you’ll find our group fitness classes such as Boxfit, Strength and Sculpt and our HIIT-based Body Blast sessions.

These classes are designed to improve overall fitness levels, build strength and boost cardiovascular health in a fun and motivating environment. Training in a group naturally brings more energy into the session and often pushes you that little bit further than you might go on your own.

Strength and conditioning work is one of the most important things we can do for our bodies. It helps maintain muscle mass, supports bone density and keeps the body strong and capable for everyday tasks. HIIT-style workouts are brilliant for improving heart health and endurance, while also being time efficient, which is ideal for people with busy schedules.

Over time, staying consistent with this kind of training can have a huge impact on overall health. People often notice they have more energy, better sleep and improved confidence, as well as the physical changes they were hoping for.

Why Health and Fitness Matter So Much for Longevity

We often talk about living longer, but what really matters is living well. Being able to stay active, play sport, travel, and simply get through the day without aches, pains or fatigue makes a massive difference to quality of life.

Regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to support long-term health. It helps reduce the risk of many chronic conditions, supports heart health, keeps muscles and joints strong and even benefits brain function as we age. In simple terms, the more we look after our bodies now, the better they will look after us later.

The Mental Health Side of Exercise

Something we see time and time again is the positive effect that regular exercise has on mental wellbeing. Moving your body, even for an hour, can clear your head, reduce stress and lift your mood. Yoga and Pilates are particularly good for this, as they combine movement with breathing and a more mindful approach.

Group classes also bring a social element that is often overlooked. Training alongside others, chatting before and after sessions and seeing familiar faces each week can make a big difference to how motivated people feel. It turns exercise from something you have to do” into something you actually look forward to.

Building a Community, Not Just Running Classes

At Hurlands, we’re not just aiming to run fitness classes. We want to build a genuine community where everyone feels welcome, whether they’re completely new to exercise or have been training for years.

Our instructors will always offer different options within classes so people can work at their own level. The aim is for everyone to feel challenged in a positive way, without ever feeling out of place. Over time, those regular classes start to feel like part of your weekly routine, and the people in them become a familiar, friendly group.

That sense of community is often what keeps people consistent with their health and fitness, and consistency is what really drives long-term results.

Supporting Pickleball and Padel Performance

For those who use our Pickleball and Padel courts, the work you do in the studio can have a huge impact on how you perform on court. Both sports rely heavily on agility, balance, coordination, core strength and endurance, all of which can be developed through our fitness, yoga and Pilates classes.

Improving strength helps with power and stability during play. Better mobility and flexibility allow for quicker, smoother movement around the court. Increased cardiovascular fitness means you can maintain a higher level of performance for longer rallies and matches. Just as importantly, stronger muscles and more stable joints help reduce the risk of common injuries.

When your focus off court is strong and consistent, your ability on court naturally improves. It’s a simple but powerful link that many players start to notice once they commit to regular off-court training.

A Welcoming and Inclusive Health and Fitness Space

Above all, we want Hurlands to be a place where anyone in the local area feels comfortable coming to improve their health and fitness. Our timetable has been created to suit different ages, abilities and goals, and we are passionate about making every class feel inclusive and supportive.

Whether someone wants to improve their strength, increase flexibility, boost their fitness levels or simply meet like-minded people in a positive environment, there is something here for them.

Health and fitness should never feel intimidating or exclusive. It should feel encouraging, enjoyable and part of everyday life. That is exactly the kind of environment we are working hard to create here at Hurlands, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more people from the local community to be part of it.
